MCGS clients recognise that getting the right garden design upfront saves wasted time and money on expensive and ecologically damaging construction and failed plants.
What makes MCGS different is that we strongly believe that all gardens already have a unique character and wildlife significance that should be understood, embraced and brought out first, rather than just imposing overly elaborate garden layouts and planting schemes for the sake of it.
You need good design from the outset of a project to find the smarter and thriftier solutions to your outdoor challenges i.e. reinvigorating existing planting and landscape elements already in place, which might work just as well if not better than a whole new scheme.
On that basis, MCGS have four design packages available to MCGS customers to cater for different stages of your gardening journey and budget - starting with making the best of what you have, to more involved and complex design and construction work:
‘Live better outdoors’ (in-person consultation)
MCGS come over to your garden space for 1-2 hours to understand how you want to more fully embrace the outdoor lifestyle, review the wildlife and practical considerations of the site, and then collaboratively come up with ideas and suggestions for the best way forward.
‘Garden tune up’
No major demolition needed - this is about embracing and nurturing your current garden as it is with a few new sprinkles of magic in certain areas. MCGS will review how the site could be made even better, more accessible year-round, and rearranged to get you outside whatever the weather. This means a set of MCGS design plans and expert advice on tweaking your layout, storage for your outdoor and adventure gear, furniture and fittings, uncovering your secret wildlife garden; and upgrading your planting and beds.
‘Plants and pots, leave the rest’
When the garden is solid and delivers, but you want to add to and revise your current planting or you are cutting back on lawn and not sure what plants might go where. MCGS deliver wildlife friendly and head turning planting designs for beds and planters when your garden is already in good shape. Good for terraced backyards and balconies, new build garden beds, and post-renovation (construction-weary) houses.
‘Full garden re-design’
Full new sustainable design, planting and maintenance plan when your existing garden is in need of a firmer intervention. We will collaborate with you to create step-by-step plans for a revitalised garden, re-discovering the hidden ecological and spatial potential of the site, and deploying the sustainable principles of high-impact-but-low-input approach to any new landscaping, planting, and construction. MCGS follow the industry standard approach to garden and landscape design.

“Martin really grasped the style and outcome we had envisioned for our garden remodel, and this was perfectly and expertly translated through the landscape gardening team to execute the project and bring to life all we had discussed in the planning. I can’t recommend Martin highly enough.”
Alex - Ecclesall, Sheffield"Our brief for the design of our garden was to create something which would reflect the woodland beyond, to be a restful retreat full of colour and flowing water, to attract wildlife, and with space to entertain. His design has enabled us to achieve all of this, and then some. It's become something of a special and calming place for us humans as well as wildlife.”
